Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

Serbian corporate interviews often start formally in standard Ekavian but shift to more relaxed informal speech as the conversation progresses. Captio AI keeps up with both registers so you never lose the thread.

💻Video interviews

Video interviews over Teams or Zoom are standard across Serbian companies and multinationals with Belgrade offices. Captio AI captions the interviewer's Serbian in real time over any compressed call.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

Initial screens at Serbian firms are often conducted by HR over the phone in standard Ekavian. Captio AI captions the recruiter's speech live without needing a video feed.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews in Belgrade often include speakers from different regions — an interviewer from Vojvodina, another from Montenegro using Ijekavian. Captio AI handles all regional varieties in the same session.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

Multinational companies in Serbia conduct some rounds in English before switching back to Serbian for technical questions. Captio AI covers both languages in the same interview.

🎯Assessment centres

Group assessment days at Serbian firms include collaborative tasks and presentations where multiple speakers may talk at once. Captio AI helps you follow every voice in the room.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Serbian

Why Serbian is hard to understand

Ekavian–Ijekavian gap

  • Same words, different vowels
  • The same vocabulary sounds entirely different depending on whether the interviewer uses Serbia's Ekavian or Bosnia and Montenegro's Ijekavian pronunciation. Without sound, these vowel substitutions disrupt familiar words at a critical moment in the interview.

Pitch accent system

  • Four accents, zero lip movement
  • Serbian carries meaning through four distinct pitch accents — rising and falling, long and short — that produce no visible face movement. An identical string of lip shapes can encode four different meanings depending on pitch alone.

Formal–casual register shift

  • Register drops mid-interview
  • Corporate Serbian interviews often open in formal standard speech and relax into casual Belgrade register where consonants reduce and syllables drop. The shift happens without warning and leaves no visible trace on the face.

Cyrillic–Latin switching

  • Two scripts in one room
  • Written cues that might help a deaf person follow context are split across Cyrillic and Latin scripts. When names, titles, and key terms appear on a whiteboard or shared screen, the script adds a decoding layer on top of the lip-reading task.

Serbian–English code-switching

  • Language switches mid-question
  • Tech and finance interviews in Belgrade frequently switch between Serbian and English for technical terms. Both language streams arrive together and both need to be tracked simultaneously in a high-stakes moment.

The Challenge

Hearing loss and employment in Serbia

The WHO's Global Burden of Disease 2019 study estimated that over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some degree of hearing loss, with Eastern European countries including Serbia proportionally affected. In the Western Balkans, hearing disability often goes undiagnosed for years — audiological services are concentrated in major urban centres, and hearing aid coverage outside Belgrade and Novi Sad remains limited, meaning many people reach working age without diagnosis or structured support.

Serbia's national disability surveys have consistently documented an employment gap of over 20 percentage points between people with disabilities and the general workforce. For those with hearing loss specifically, the combination of communication barriers and limited workplace accommodation means many leave formal employment or never enter it. The Savez gluvih i nagluvih Srbije (Serbian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) represents tens of thousands of members navigating an employment environment that has seen incremental legislative improvement but uneven enforcement.

As an EU candidate country, Serbia is aligning its disability policy framework with European standards, but the gap between legislation and daily reality remains wide. The WHO World Report on Hearing (2021) highlighted that globally, unaddressed hearing loss carries an annual economic cost estimated at over USD 980 billion, with working-age adults bearing a disproportionate share. Captio AI gives deaf and hard of hearing job seekers in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš a way to follow every interview question in real time — without an interpreter and without advance disclosure to the employer.
