Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

In a Chandigarh, Amritsar, or Ludhiana office — an interviewer speaking Punjabi at professional pace. Captio AI captions every question in real time so you read the full sentence before responding.

💻Video interviews

Video interviews on Zoom or Google Meet in Punjabi corporate environments. Put the call on speaker and follow every question in real time whether in Punjabi, Hindi, or English.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

Initial HR screening calls in Punjabi — fast, formal, often with Hindi or English switching. Captio AI captions the recruiter's voice in real time so compressed audio does not become the barrier.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews at Punjab-based employers or major Chandigarh and Amritsar companies. Captio AI follows each panelist in real time even when they shift between Punjabi, Hindi, and English.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

For roles at multinationals in Punjab or Lahore where interviews shift between Punjabi and English. Live Translator handles both in the same session without manual switching.

🎯Assessment centres

Group discussions and competency assessments — common in Indian and Pakistani banking and corporate recruitment in Punjab. Captio AI covers facilitator instructions and participant contributions.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Punjabi

Why Punjabi is hard to understand

Three lexical tones

  • Punjabi uses pitch to change meaning — but pitch is invisible on the lips
  • Punjabi is one of the few South Asian languages with lexical tone — three tones (level, high-falling, low-rising) distinguish word meanings. Unlike Mandarin or Vietnamese tones, Punjabi tones are produced primarily by voice quality (creaky vs modal vs breathy voice) rather than just pitch contour. In a formal Punjabi job interview, the same syllable lip shape can mean three different things depending on voice quality, and a deaf candidate watching the interviewer's lips has no visual way to distinguish them.

Retroflex-dental collision

  • ਟ/ਠ/ਡ/ਢ and ਤ/ਥ/ਦ/ਧ look identical on the lips
  • Like other South Asian languages, Punjabi contrasts retroflex (ਟ, ਠ, ਡ, ਢ — tongue curled to hard palate) with dental (ਤ, ਥ, ਦ, ਧ — tongue at teeth) consonants. The pairs look visually indistinguishable in normal interview speech. In a Chandigarh or Lahore office, an interviewer's retroflex consonants produce the same lip shapes as their dental counterparts.

Aspiration pairs

  • Aspirated and unaspirated stops are acoustic, not visible
  • Punjabi contrasts aspirated and unaspirated stops: ਪ/ਫ, ਟ/ਠ, ਕ/ਖ, ਬ/ਭ. The aspiration is a burst of breath — acoustic, produced after the consonant, invisible on the lips. A deaf candidate watching a Punjabi interviewer cannot distinguish these pairs, which carry meaning in interview vocabulary.

Punjabi-Hindi-English switching

  • Indian Punjab interviews mix three languages mid-sentence
  • In Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Amritsar offices, Punjabi, Hindi, and English mix in professional conversation — and in Pakistani Punjab, Punjabi, Urdu, and English mix similarly. An interviewer may ask a question in Punjabi, use a Hindi term, and close with an English phrase. A deaf candidate tracking any one language is watching the others invisibly.

Dialect variation

  • Majhi, Doabi, and Malwai Punjabi have different phonological profiles
  • Standard Punjabi (Majhi, based on the Lahore-Amritsar region) differs from Doabi (Jalandhar area) and Malwai (Ludhiana-Patiala area) in vowel quality and some consonant patterns. A deaf candidate trained on one variety faces different lip shapes from an interviewer from another region of Punjab.

The Challenge

55% of Pakistan's disabled population is in Punjab — and most interviews are inaccessible

Pakistan's data shows that 55.7% of the country's disabled population is concentrated in Punjab — more than any other province. The Punjab provincial government has raised the disability employment quota to 3%, above the national 2% floor, but implementation in practice remains limited. Pakistan's overall hearing disability prevalence is 4.8% of the total population, and in Punjab — the country's most populous province with over 120 million residents — this translates to millions of people affected. Special education schools for deaf children exist across Punjab but face resource constraints, and graduates face a hiring market that rarely provides accessible interview formats.

In Indian Punjab, hearing impairment prevalence is recorded at 1.7% — lower than the national average — but the absolute numbers remain significant in a state of 30 million people. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016 mandates reasonable accommodations and a 4% employment quota in government jobs. Implementation in Chandigarh's public and private sectors is inconsistent, and interview-stage captioning is not a standard offering at any major Punjab employer.

In both Indian and Pakistani Punjab, the job interview is a fast verbal process conducted in a mix of Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu, and English — a trilingual environment that compounds the phonological challenge of a language that uses pitch contours to distinguish word meanings. A deaf candidate attends a Punjab job interview in a system that provides no structural support for the interview stage itself. Captio AI requires no employer arrangement: open the app, place the phone on the desk, and every Punjabi sentence is available in real time — tone markers captured in audio, not lost on the lips.
