Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

Lithuanian corporate interviews in Vilnius typically use standard Aukštaitian-based Lithuanian. Captio AI captions the interviewer's speech in real time so you can focus on your answers rather than straining to follow pitch patterns.

💻Video interviews

Video interviews over Teams or Zoom are standard at Lithuanian companies and multinationals with Vilnius offices. Captio AI captions the call audio in real time over any compressed connection.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

Initial phone screens at Lithuanian firms are conducted in standard Lithuanian. Captio AI captions the recruiter's speech live without a video feed.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews in Lithuania may include speakers from Vilnius, Kaunas, or Šiauliai — each with slightly different regional features. Captio AI handles all regional varieties in the same session.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

Lithuanian tech and professional companies often conduct some rounds in English. Captio AI covers Lithuanian and English in the same interview without any mode change.

🎯Assessment centres

Group assessment exercises at Lithuanian employers involve collaborative tasks and discussion. Captio AI helps you follow every speaker and every question across the group.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Lithuanian

Why Lithuanian is hard to understand

Pitch accent system

  • Two tones, one visible shape
  • Standard Lithuanian distinguishes acute and circumflex pitch accents on long vowels — the same syllable carries different meaning depending on its tonal contour. This distinction is entirely auditory with no visible lip or face signal, creating systematic ambiguity for a deaf reader.

Samogitian broken tone

  • A glottal stop that changes meaning
  • The Samogitian dialect — spoken across western Lithuania — uses a broken tone realised through a glottal interruption followed by a sharp pitch drop. This phoneme is produced entirely in the larynx with no visible lip movement and is absent from standard Lithuanian, wrong-footing a reader calibrated on Vilnius speech.

Palatalization density

  • 32 palatalized consonants
  • Lithuanian phonology includes 32 palatalized consonants alongside their hard counterparts. The distinction between a hard and soft consonant is produced at the middle of the tongue, not the lips, making it invisible in lip-reading — yet it changes word meaning throughout every sentence.

Vowel quantity contrasts

  • Short and long vowels look the same
  • Lithuanian contrasts short and long vowels across its vowel inventory. Duration differences that change meaning are purely acoustic with no visible lip shape difference, adding another layer of ambiguity to an already complex system for a deaf reader.

Lithuanian–English switching

  • Two language streams in one technical interview
  • Lithuanian tech, finance, and professional interviews in Vilnius frequently switch to English for technical vocabulary and international business terms. Both language streams arrive in the same session and must both be tracked simultaneously.

The Challenge

Hearing loss and employment in Lithuania

The European Disability Forum's review of Lithuania's disability rights progress — fifteen years after the country ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities — highlighted persistent gaps in employment and social integration for people with disabilities, including those with hearing loss. Despite legislative reform and growing civil society advocacy, the employment gap between disabled and non-disabled Lithuanians remains significant, with deaf and hard of hearing workers particularly affected by the absence of real-time communication accommodation in recruitment.

The International Labour Organization has documented that across Central and Eastern European countries, people with disabilities face employment rates 20 to 40 percentage points lower than non-disabled workers. Lithuania's deaf community — represented primarily by the Lithuanian Association of the Deaf — has consistently reported that the absence of captioning in job interviews represents one of the earliest and most concrete points at which this gap is created.

The WHO World Report on Hearing (2021) estimated that globally, unaddressed hearing loss costs over USD 980 billion annually, with the burden concentrated among working-age adults in countries where accommodation provision is inconsistent. For deaf and hard of hearing job seekers in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda, Captio AI provides real-time captions the moment the interviewer speaks — without an interpreter and without advance disclosure to the employer.
