Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

In a Bengaluru, Mysuru, or Mangaluru office — an interviewer speaking Kannada at professional pace. Captio AI captions every question in real time so you read the full sentence before responding.

💻Video interviews

Zoom or Google Meet in Kannada corporate environments — from Bengaluru's tech corridor to Karnataka government offices. Follow every question in real time whatever the language mix.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

HR screening calls in Kannada — fast, formal, often with English or Hindi terms mid-sentence. Captio AI captions in real time so code-switching does not become the barrier.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews at Karnataka-based employers — from Infosys and Wipro to government agencies and cooperative banks. Captio AI follows each panelist even as they shift between Kannada, Hindi, and English.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

For roles at multinationals in Bengaluru where interviews shift between Kannada and English. Live Translator handles both in the same session without manual switching.

🎯Assessment centres

Group discussions and technical interviews — common at Bengaluru's IT and management employers. Captio AI covers facilitator instructions and all participant contributions.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Kannada

Why Kannada is hard to understand

MRI-confirmed dental-retroflex gap

  • Kannada's dental-retroflex contrast is entirely inside the mouth
  • A Cambridge JIPA study using MRI showed that the dental-retroflex contrast in Kannada involves significant tongue body position differences — all inside the mouth, producing identical visible lip positions. Retroflex ಟ, ಡ, ಣ, ಳ look identical to their dental counterparts on the lips. In a formal Bengaluru interview, these distinctions carry phonemic meaning that a deaf candidate cannot recover from visual observation.

Kannada diglossia

  • Formal interview Kannada (Grandhika) differs from everyday Halu Kannada
  • Kannada has a documented diglossia between Grandhika (literary/formal) Kannada used in official and interview contexts, and Halu Kannada (colloquial/everyday) speech. Formal interview vocabulary uses literary roots and different grammatical constructions. A deaf candidate familiar with everyday colloquial Kannada speech in Bengaluru faces unfamiliar formal vocabulary in a structured interview.

Kannada-English switching

  • Bengaluru's tech sector interviews mix Kannada and English constantly
  • Bengaluru is India's largest IT hub, and tech sector interviews mix Kannada and English extensively within the same sentence. An interviewer may begin in Kannada and switch to English for technical terms or vice versa. A deaf candidate tracking Kannada is suddenly watching English, with no visible signal of the shift.

Trilingual switching

  • Bengaluru interviews also mix Hindi as a link language
  • Bengaluru is home to large populations of Hindi speakers from other states, and professional environments switch between Kannada, Hindi, and English depending on the listener and context. A deaf candidate tracking Kannada may watch Kannada, Hindi, and English within a single interview session.

Geminate consonants

  • Kannada geminates change meaning but look identical to singletons
  • Like Telugu and Tamil, Kannada uses consonant gemination to distinguish word meanings. Geminates are held acoustically longer but produce identical lip positions to singleton consonants. In a fast Bengaluru interview, a deaf candidate cannot visually distinguish geminate from singleton consonants.

The Challenge

63 million with hearing loss in India — and Bengaluru's IT boom has not made hiring accessible

India has 63 million people with significant hearing loss. Karnataka — home to Bengaluru, India's largest IT hub — is one of India's major employment centres, with large IT companies, manufacturing, aerospace, and government sectors. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016 mandates a 4% employment quota in government jobs and requires reasonable accommodations for disabled workers. The Deaf Enabled Foundation operates across Karnataka and other South Indian states, providing vocational training and job placements for deaf candidates. Despite this support infrastructure, the interview process at most Bengaluru IT companies, manufacturing firms, and public sector employers does not include captioning as a standard offering.

The UNDP India disability inclusion study (2023) found that while some major IT companies — particularly those with international diversity and inclusion programmes — had made progress, the majority of private-sector employers in India lacked awareness of accommodation obligations and rarely provided interview-stage support for deaf candidates. Bengaluru's tech interviews — technical rounds, HR discussions, and group exercises conducted in Kannada, Hindi, and English — remain primarily oral and designed without deaf access in mind.

Kannada's linguistic structure amplifies the access gap. MRI research has confirmed that the dental-retroflex contrast — one of Kannada's distinctive phonological features — is produced entirely inside the mouth and is invisible on the lips. Formal Grandhika vocabulary in official interviews differs from everyday speech. Bengaluru's trilingual switching makes the interview a three-language tracking challenge. Captio AI requires no employer arrangement: open the app, place the phone on the desk, and every Kannada, English, or Hindi sentence is available in real time.
