Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

In a Pune or Mumbai office — an interviewer speaking formal Marathi at corporate pace. Captio AI captions every question in real time so you read the full sentence before responding.

💻Video interviews

Google Meet or Zoom in Marathi corporate environments. Put the call on speaker, open Captio AI, and follow every question in real time whether in Marathi, Hindi, or English.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

HR screening calls in Marathi — fast, clipped, often with Marathi-Hindi-English switching. Captio AI captions the recruiter's voice in real time so nothing is lost over the phone.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews at large Maharashtra employers — from Tata and Infosys to cooperative banks. Captio AI follows each panelist's question even when speakers switch between Marathi and English.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

For roles at multinationals in Pune or Mumbai where the interview moves between Marathi, Hindi, and English. Live Translator handles all three in the same session.

🎯Assessment centres

Group discussions — a common final-round format at Indian management and banking employers in Maharashtra. Captio AI covers the facilitator's instructions and every participant's contribution in real time.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Marathi

Why Marathi is hard to understand

Retroflex series

  • ट/ठ/ड/ढ/ण/ळ all look identical to non-retroflex sounds on the lips
  • Marathi has one of the most extensive retroflex consonant series in South Asian languages — ट, ठ, ड, ढ, ण, and the retroflex lateral ळ, all produced with the tongue curled to the hard palate. Every one of these sounds looks identical to its non-retroflex counterpart on the lips. In a formal Pune or Mumbai office interview, these distinctions carry meaning in common words and are systematically invisible to a lip-reader.

Aspiration pairs

  • Aspirated and unaspirated stops are acoustic, not visible
  • Like Hindi, Marathi contrasts aspirated and unaspirated stop pairs — प/फ, ट/ठ, क/ख, ब/भ. The aspiration is a burst of breath, produced acoustically. A lip-reader watching a Marathi interviewer in a formal Pune corporate setting cannot distinguish 'पद' from 'फन', 'बाब' from 'भाव' — the lip shapes are identical.

Trilingual code-switching

  • Marathi interviews in Maharashtra mix Marathi, Hindi, and English
  • Professional environments in Maharashtra — especially Mumbai's financial sector and Pune's IT industry — routinely mix Marathi, Hindi, and English within a single conversation. An interviewer may ask a question in Marathi, use a Hindi phrase, and finish with an English technical term. A deaf candidate tracking any one language is watching the others invisibly.

Formal register gap

  • Corporate Marathi draws on Sanskrit-derived vocabulary unlike everyday speech
  • Formal interview Marathi in Maharashtra's major employers uses Sanskritic and literary vocabulary distinct from everyday Marathi speech. A deaf candidate whose visual Marathi vocabulary comes from daily interactions in Nashik or Aurangabad may not recognize the formal register used in a Mumbai bank or Pune IT firm interview.

Fast connected speech

  • Marathi corporate speech compresses across word boundaries
  • Natural Marathi in a fast interview setting reduces inter-word boundaries and compresses consonants and vowels. A formal interview in Pune's IT corridor moves at professional pace — the compressed speech collapses visual markers that would be more distinct at a slower rate.

The Challenge

63 million with hearing loss in India — and Maharashtra's booming job market still inaccessible at the interview stage

India has an estimated 63 million people with significant hearing loss — one of the largest affected populations globally. Maharashtra, home to Mumbai and Pune, is India's wealthiest state by GDP and its primary financial and IT employment hub. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016 mandates a 4% employment quota for persons with disabilities in government jobs and requires reasonable workplace accommodations. In practice, recruitment at major Maharashtra employers rarely includes captioning or sign language interpretation at the interview stage, and the formal quota is inconsistently enforced in the private sector.

The gap is felt sharpest at the interview. Mumbai's banking sector, Pune's IT industry, and Maharashtra's cooperative sector all run structured, fast-paced verbal interviews. The Deaf Enabled Foundation, which operates across Maharashtra and South India, provides skill training and job placement for deaf candidates — but the interview itself remains an unstructured spoken format with no mandated visual support. Requesting accommodation in advance can expose the candidate to bias before their qualifications are evaluated.

Maharashtra's trilingual professional environment — Marathi, Hindi, and English switching in the same sentence — compounds the challenge for a deaf candidate. No single visual language strategy covers all three registers simultaneously. Captio AI handles this environment in a single session: open the app, place the phone on the desk, and every Marathi, Hindi, or English phrase is captioned in real time without any pre-arrangement with the interviewer.
