In a formal Kerala interview, a deaf candidate's lip-reading provides almost no information about which of these three positions the interviewer is using.
Formal-colloquial diglossia

India has 63 million people with significant hearing loss, and Kerala — with one of India's highest literacy rates and a large formal employment sector — is home to a significant share of this population. The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016 mandates a 4% employment quota in government jobs and requires reasonable accommodations. In Kerala's government service, banking, and IT sectors, these provisions exist in law but interview-stage captioning remains uncommon.
