Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

Danish interviews often take place in a relaxed conversational tone — the famously informal Nordic office culture means interviewers speak at natural speed with significant vowel reduction. Captio AI captures every word even when speech is soft and fast.

💻Video interviews

Video interviews are standard across Danish companies. The compressed audio of a Teams or Zoom call amplifies Danish's already-swallowed vowels. Captio AI keeps up with it in real time.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

Danish phone screens move quickly and informal filler words drop syllables that are already hard to track. Captio AI captions the recruiter's speech as it happens, without a video feed.

👥Panel interviews

Danish panel interviews may include speakers from different regions — a Jutlandic interviewer sounds noticeably different from a Copenhagen speaker. Captio AI handles both in the same room without any adjustment.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

Many Danish companies conduct part of the interview in English before switching back to Danish. Captio AI covers both languages in the same session without any mode change.

🎯Assessment centres

Group assessment tasks in Denmark involve fast collaborative discussion in Danish. Captio AI helps you follow who is speaking and what is being asked, even in a busy room.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Danish

Why Danish is hard to understand

Stød — the invisible feature

  • A phoneme with no face
  • Danish stød is a laryngeal feature — creaky voice or a brief glottal closure — that distinguishes minimal pairs such as hun ('she') and hund ('dog'). It exists entirely in the larynx with zero lip or face movement. A deaf reader cannot detect it at all, yet it changes meaning throughout the interview.

Vowel swallowing

  • Syllables that vanish in casual speech
  • Danish has some of the most extreme vowel reduction of any European language. In natural conversational speech, unstressed syllables collapse toward near-silence. An interviewer speaking at a natural pace may reduce entire words to a central vowel and a consonant edge.

Jutlandic–Copenhagen divergence

  • Two very different accents
  • A Jutlandic interviewer and a Copenhagen interviewer sound strikingly different — Jutlandic lacks stød, shifts vowels, and has different prosody. The speech pattern you prepared for in one city can fail completely in another.

Soft-D deletion

  • Consonants that disappear
  • The Danish soft d (/ð/) is a weak approximant that often disappears entirely in casual speech. Common word endings in -de, -et, and -ede drop the consonant in natural delivery, and frequent function words merge into near-identical shapes.

Clipped prosody

  • Fewer cues, less redundancy
  • Danish sentences tend to be tonally flat compared to other Scandinavian languages. The rhythmic cues that help predict word boundaries are weaker, giving a deaf interviewer fewer redundant signals to reconstruct what was said.

The Challenge

Hearing loss and employment in Denmark

A study of deaf and hard of hearing adults in Denmark published in the Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research found that only 38% were employed, compared with 67% in a randomly selected reference group — a gap of nearly 30 percentage points in one of Europe's most generous welfare states. This gap persists despite Denmark's strong anti-discrimination legislation and well-resourced labour market services, suggesting that structural barriers beyond legal protection continue to limit DHH Danes' career progression.

The 2025 EFHOH 'Towards Inclusive Employment' report, covering Nordic countries, identified fatigue as the leading driver of reduced working hours among hard of hearing employees. In a typical Danish workplace — open-plan offices, meetings in minimalist rooms with hard surfaces, a culture of rapid casual conversation — the cognitive load of tracking speech without full hearing accumulates across a day. For job seekers, that same load is concentrated into the single high-stakes hour of an interview.

Statistics Denmark tracks approximately 800,000 Danes — around 14% of the population — as having some degree of hearing difficulty, yet occupational accommodation and interpreter provision remain inconsistent across employers. The WHO World Report on Hearing (2021) flagged that globally, fewer than 17% of those who need hearing aids have access to them. Captio AI fills this gap for deaf and hard of hearing job seekers in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense who need to follow every word of a Danish interview — instantly, without an interpreter, and without advance notice.
