Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👔In-person interviews

In a Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, or Timișoara office — an interviewer speaking Romanian at professional pace. Captio AI captions every question in real time so you read the full sentence before responding.

💻Video interviews

Video interviews on Teams or Zoom — standard for remote rounds at Romanian companies. Put the call on speaker and follow every question in real time whatever the regional accent.

📞Phone screens and initial calls

The initial HR screening call in Romanian — fast, formal, with unique vowels and consonant clusters. Captio AI captions in real time so compressed audio does not become the barrier.

👥Panel interviews

Panel interviews at Romanian companies, public institutions, or multinationals. Captio AI follows each panelist in real time even as they shift between Romanian and English.

🌍International and foreign-language interviews

For roles at multinationals in Romania where interviews shift between Romanian and English. Live Translator handles both in the same session without manual switching.

🎯Assessment centres

Competency assessments and group exercises — common at major Romanian banks and corporate employers. Captio AI covers all facilitator speech and candidate interaction.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where a missed word has real consequences

Read the full question before you answer

Every word appears on screen as the interviewer speaks. You read the question completely before responding — nothing guessed, nothing reconstructed.

Works in person and on any call format

In-person interviews, video calls, phone screens. Place the phone on the table or point it toward the audio — Captio AI handles every format.

Discreet by design

The app runs quietly on your phone. Place it on the table or hold it naturally. No explanation needed, no drawing attention to the accommodation.

No asking for repeats

Asking an interviewer to repeat a question signals uncertainty. Captio AI means you never need to — you read it in real time and answer with confidence.

Any language

For international roles, multilingual panels, or interviews conducted in a second language. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so language is never the barrier.

Private by default

Interview conversations are sensitive. Captio AI processes audio in real time and discards it immediately — nothing is stored, nothing is shared.

Romanian

Why Romanian is hard to understand

Unique vowels ă and â/î

  • Romanian's two mid-central vowels look like a and i on the lips but are neither
  • Romanian has two unique phonemes — ă /ə/ (a mid-central schwa-like vowel) and â/î /ɨ/ (a close central unrounded vowel) — that exist in few other European languages. Both produce lip shapes similar to their nearest visual neighbours (a and i) but are phonemically distinct. In a Bucharest interview, words containing ă and â appear constantly and look similar to words they are not.

Ş and Ţ confusion

  • Romanian's unique ş and ţ look like s and t but are different sounds
  • Romanian has two unique consonants in the Latin alphabet — ş /ʃ/ (like 'sh') and ţ /ʦ/ (like 'ts'). On the lips, ş looks like s and ţ looks like t. In fast formal interview speech, minimal pairs or near-minimal pairs involving these sounds look visually identical to their phonologically distinct counterparts.

Consonant cluster density

  • Romanian permits complex clusters in interview vocabulary
  • Romanian allows complex consonant clusters in formal and technical vocabulary — construcție, structurare, strângere. In fast corporate interview speech, these clusters produce dense consonant sequences where visual word boundaries are difficult to locate.

Regional dialect variation

  • Bucharest, Moldavian, and Transylvanian Romanian sound different on the lips
  • Romanian has distinct regional varieties — Muntenian (Bucharest), Moldavian, Transylvanian, and Oltenian — with different vowel qualities, some phonological processes, and vocabulary. An interviewer from Cluj sounds different from one from Iași or from Bucharest on the lips, creating recognition challenges for a deaf candidate trained on one variety.

Romanian-English switching

  • Bucharest's multinational and IT sector interviews mix Romanian and English
  • Romania's large IT and outsourcing sector — centred in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara — mixes Romanian and English extensively in professional interviews. A deaf candidate tracking Romanian may suddenly be watching English technical terms, with no visible signal of the language switch.

The Challenge

900,000 Romanians hold disability certificates — and labour market integration has been declining

Approximately 1 in every 20 people in Romania holds a disability certificate as of June 2023 — nearly 900,000 individuals. A World Bank disability-inclusive social protection brief for Romania (December 2023) noted that labour market integration for disabled Romanians had been declining relative to other groups, with many relying on disability compensation benefits. Romania's National Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2022–2027 acknowledges these employment gaps and commits to structural improvements, but implementation remains at an early stage.

Romania has undergone rapid economic transformation since EU accession, with a growing IT, automotive, and business process outsourcing sector. The interview formats at major Bucharest employers — multinational corporations, Romanian banks, IT firms, and state enterprises — are structured verbal processes without standard captioning. The EU Disability Forum has found that across Europe, the majority of persons with disabilities remain locked out of quality employment, with the interview stage consistently identified as a point of disproportionate exclusion.

Romanian's specific phonological characteristics compound the access gap. The unique vowels ă and â/î are found in few other European languages and have no equivalent visual reference for a lip-reader from outside Romania. Ş and ţ look like more common consonants on the lips. Regional accent variation across Bucharest, Cluj, and Iași means a deaf candidate faces different lip shapes depending on where the interviewer is from. Captio AI requires no employer arrangement: open the app, place the phone on the desk, and every Romanian sentence — unique vowels and all — is available in real time.
