A work call with Slovenian colleagues or clients — professional Ljubljana Slovenian with its standard register and business vocabulary.
A callback from a zdravstveni dom (health centre) in Ljubljana or a lekarna (pharmacy) — healthcare calls where every word about medication or a specialist referral matters.

A call from a Slovenian relative in Austria or Germany, mixing Slovenian with German mid-conversation.

Built for the calls you have been avoiding
Captions as they speak
Words appear on screen word by word while the other person is still talking. You read what they say at the same pace everyone else hears it — no delay, no reconstruction.
Works on any call app
Captio AI does not need to integrate with any platform. Put the call on speaker, point the microphone toward the audio, and read the captions. It works the same way for any app on any device.
No more asking for repeats
Every word is on screen as it is said. If you missed something, glance at the caption rather than interrupting the call — the full sentence is there.
Handles call audio accurately
Compressed phone audio is less clean than in-person speech. Captio AI is built for real-world audio conditions, including the reduced quality of standard phone and VoIP calls.
Any language
For calls with family abroad, international colleagues, or foreign-language customer service. Live Translator captions and translates in real time with no manual setup.
Record and review after
Record any call and upload it to Audio Transcription. Get a full written record of everything said — useful for medical instructions, work decisions, and anything worth having in writing.
Why Slovenian is hard to understand
Pitch accent in standard Slovenian
- Rising and falling tones distinguish words with no visible lip change
- Standard Slovenian is based on the central Carniolan dialect, which has phonemic tone — rising and falling pitch accents distinguish word pairs. The tonal distinction is entirely auditory with no lip correlate. A deaf lip-reader cannot detect it, making pitch-distinguished word pairs look identical.
Extreme dialect fragmentation
- Seven dialect groups with major differences in vowel systems
- Slovenian has one of the most fragmented dialect landscapes in Europe relative to speaker numbers — seven major groups (Carniolan, Styrian, Carinthian, Littoral, Rovte, Pannonian, Koroška) with substantial differences in vowel systems and prosody. A call from Koper sounds different from one from Maribor.
Vowel reduction in fast speech
- Unstressed vowels compress to near-invisibility at conversational speed
- Standard Slovenian has both long and short vowels; in fast casual speech, unstressed vowels reduce significantly. On a phone call at natural pace, the lip shapes for unstressed syllables collapse to a near-neutral position, making word parsing harder.
Slovenian-German code-switching
- German enters in Carinthian and business contexts
- In the Carinthian region of Austria (where Slovenian is a recognized minority language) and in business calls, Slovenian-German code-switching is common. A caller from Carinthia may move between both languages without marking the transition.
Prenasalization in dialects
- Some dialects insert a nasal before stops — invisibly
- Certain Slovenian dialects prenasalize stops, inserting a brief nasal sound before a plosive. This feature is produced entirely inside the mouth with no visible lip change, and is entirely undetectable to a lip-reader.

Slovenia has a population of 2.1 million. Applying the Global Burden of Disease 2019 prevalence rates for the European region gives an estimated 420,000 Slovenians with some degree of hearing loss. Slovenian Sign Language (SZJ) is legally recognised and Slovenia ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2008 — positioning it well by regional standards. In practice, interpreter provision outside Ljubljana is limited, and phone-based services in Slovenia — banking, healthcare, utilities — provide no real-time captioning.
The Epidemiology of Deafness study (PMC6719589) notes that in small European countries, the relatively small deaf community size limits the economic incentive for companies to invest in accessibility infrastructure. For Slovenian deaf and hard of hearing people, this means that telephone calls — from a zdravstveni dom callback to a bank verification — remain systematically inaccessible without a hearing intermediary, even where legal rights to access formally exist.
Captio AI captions every Slovenian phone call in real time — from a family call in the Littoral dialect to a Ljubljana bank callback in standard Slovenian — so deaf and hard of hearing users can follow every word independently.

Gone the moment it ends
Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.
Not a product
Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.
Not used to train anything
What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
