Why Captio AI

Built for the calls you have been avoiding

Captions as they speak

Words appear on screen word by word while the other person is still talking. You read what they say at the same pace everyone else hears it — no delay, no reconstruction.

Works on any call app

Captio AI does not need to integrate with any platform. Put the call on speaker, point the microphone toward the audio, and read the captions. It works the same way for any app on any device.

No more asking for repeats

Every word is on screen as it is said. If you missed something, glance at the caption rather than interrupting the call — the full sentence is there.

Handles call audio accurately

Compressed phone audio is less clean than in-person speech. Captio AI is built for real-world audio conditions, including the reduced quality of standard phone and VoIP calls.

Any language

For calls with family abroad, international colleagues, or foreign-language customer service. Live Translator captions and translates in real time with no manual setup.

Record and review after

Record any call and upload it to Audio Transcription. Get a full written record of everything said — useful for medical instructions, work decisions, and anything worth having in writing.

Serbian

Why Serbian is hard to understand

Ekavian/Ijekavian split

  • The same word sounds different depending on the region
  • Belgrade uses Ekavian (mleko, dete) while speakers from Bosnia, Montenegro, and parts of Vojvodina use Ijekavian (mlijeko, dijete). The vowel patterns differ, but lip shapes overlap — a phone call from Novi Sad reads differently from one from the capital.

Soft vs hard palatals

  • ć/đ and č/dž share nearly identical lip shapes
  • Serbian distinguishes soft palatals (ć, đ) from hard post-alveolars (č, dž) by tongue position alone. Lip shapes are virtually identical. On a video call, the difference between 'kuća' and 'kuča' is invisible.

Final devoicing

  • Word-final consonants change sound without changing lip shape
  • Serbian devoices consonants at the end of words — 'grad' sounds like 'grat', 'nož' like 'noš'. The lip shape of the final consonant stays the same while the sound shifts, introducing ambiguity at every word boundary in running speech.

Balkan fast tempo

  • Unstressed syllables disappear in casual speech
  • Informal Serbian drops unstressed syllables and contracts common words heavily. At the speed of a normal phone call — with café noise or street sounds behind the speaker — even hearing callers ask for repetition.

Code-switching

  • English loanwords appear mid-sentence without warning
  • Younger Belgrade speakers mix English words seamlessly — mejl, okej, kul, fajl — without pause or signal. A lip-reader tracking Serbian word shapes is suddenly presented with English phonology, then back again.

The Challenge

Hearing loss touches every corner of daily life in Serbia

Applying the Global Burden of Disease 2019 prevalence rates for the European region to Serbia's population of 6.9 million, an estimated 1.1 to 1.4 million people live with some degree of hearing loss — a figure that includes around 280,000 with disabling hearing loss. Despite this scale, Serbian Sign Language has no legal recognition under national law, leaving deaf Serbians without a guaranteed right to interpreter access in healthcare, legal, or government settings.

Serbia adopted its Law on the Prevention of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities in 2006 and ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009. In practice, enforcement is uneven. The Serbian Association of the Deaf reports persistent barriers in employment and public services, with many deaf Serbians unable to independently access bank calls, utility services, or medical consultations without a hearing companion — a dependence that limits privacy and autonomy throughout adult life.

Captio AI captions every Serbian phone call in real time — from a family check-in in Ekavian to a work call in formal Belgrade Serbian — so deaf and hard of hearing users can follow conversations independently, without needing a hearing intermediary on the line.

Privacy

What you hear stays with you.

Gone the moment it ends

Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.

Not a product

Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.

Not used to train anything

What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
