Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

👨‍👩‍👧Calls with family and friends

A family call from a parent or grandparent in Copenhagen or Jutland — following along as they recount the week in fast, contracted everyday Danish.

💼Work calls and conference calls

A work call with Danish colleagues or clients — professional Danish from a speaker possibly sitting in an open office with background noise.

🏥Medical and healthcare calls

A callback from a Danish GP surgery, hospital outpatient department, or pharmacy — health system calls where every detail matters.

🏦Banks, utilities, and customer service

A call from Nets, the tax authority, a utility company, or a Danish customer service line — menus, options, and agents speaking quickly in standard Danish.

🌍International calls

A call from a Danish relative living in Germany or Sweden, mixing Danish with German or Swedish words in the casual way diaspora speakers do.

📹Video calls — FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom

A FaceTime or Teams video call with Danish family or colleagues — the platform where much of modern Danish social and work life now happens remotely.

Why Captio AI

Built for the calls you have been avoiding

Captions as they speak

Words appear on screen word by word while the other person is still talking. You read what they say at the same pace everyone else hears it — no delay, no reconstruction.

Works on any call app

Captio AI does not need to integrate with any platform. Put the call on speaker, point the microphone toward the audio, and read the captions. It works the same way for any app on any device.

No more asking for repeats

Every word is on screen as it is said. If you missed something, glance at the caption rather than interrupting the call — the full sentence is there.

Handles call audio accurately

Compressed phone audio is less clean than in-person speech. Captio AI is built for real-world audio conditions, including the reduced quality of standard phone and VoIP calls.

Any language

For calls with family abroad, international colleagues, or foreign-language customer service. Live Translator captions and translates in real time with no manual setup.

Record and review after

Record any call and upload it to Audio Transcription. Get a full written record of everything said — useful for medical instructions, work decisions, and anything worth having in writing.

Danish

Why Danish is hard to understand

Syllable swallowing

  • A quarter of all syllables disappear in ordinary speech
  • Danish speakers omit on average about one in four syllables in casual conversation. Words contract so heavily that even Danish children take longer than children speaking other languages to learn their own tongue. On a phone call, whole syllables and sometimes whole words vanish mid-sentence.

Stød

  • A glottal creak that distinguishes words with no lip movement
  • The stød is a creaky voice quality that distinguishes word pairs — 'hund' (dog) vs the past form of 'hunt' — produced entirely in the throat. It leaves no visible mark on the lips. A deaf lip-reader tracking Danish cannot detect the stød at all, making stød-distinguished word pairs look identical.

40-vowel system

  • One of the largest vowel inventories in Europe
  • Danish has approximately 40 distinct vowel sounds — two to three times the English inventory. Many differ only in tongue height or roundness, with minimal lip shape variation. On a video call, distinguishing Danish vowel pairs by lip-reading alone is close to impossible.

No spoken standard

  • Every region speaks a substantially different variety
  • There is no single standard spoken Danish. Jutland dialects compress vowels and soften consonants distinctly from Copenhagen Danish; Bornholmsk is so divergent it is sometimes described as a separate language. A phone call from Aarhus reads differently from one from the capital.

Consonant lenition

  • Intervocalic consonants soften or disappear entirely
  • Danish regularly weakens consonants between vowels — /d/ becomes the fricative /ð/ or disappears, /g/ becomes /j/ or /w/. Spoken Danish looks much sparser on the lips than the written form, making it one of the hardest European languages to lip-read.

The Challenge

Hearing loss in Denmark: a larger scale than it appears

An estimated 800,000 Danes live with some degree of hearing loss — roughly one in seven of the population — with the share rising steeply with age: 33.9% of Danes over 74 report hearing impairment. A national survey (PubMed PMID 28555382) found that adults with hearing loss in Denmark report significantly higher rates of co-occurring visual impairment, mental health conditions, and other disabilities than the general population, pointing to the compounding burden of hearing loss in daily life.

Denmark's public health system funds hearing aids through audiologist referral from a GP, making it among the better-resourced countries for hearing aid provision in Europe. Yet hearing aid ownership does not translate to full participation in phone-based life. Danish telephone services — bank calls, utility lines, GP appointment systems — are conducted at normal speech speed with no captioning provision, and even well-fitted hearing aid users report difficulty following automated voice menus and fast-talking agents. The GBD 2019 study situates Denmark within a Western European prevalence band where hearing loss is the leading cause of years lived with disability for the over-60 population.

Captio AI captions every Danish phone call in real time — from a fast family call from Jutland to a GP callback in Copenhagen Danish — so deaf and hard of hearing users can follow every word independently.

Privacy

What you hear stays with you.

Gone the moment it ends

Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.

Not a product

Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.

Not used to train anything

What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.

People love Captio AI

"Danish eats its own words. My GP calls back and I miss half of what she says because syllables disappear. Captio AI gives me every word on screen and I actually know what the follow-up appointment is for."
