A call home to family in Vilnius, Kaunas, or Klaipėda — catching up with parents or siblings in Lithuanian at the pace of a family phone call.
A work call with Lithuanian colleagues or clients — professional Lithuanian with its formal register and sector-specific vocabulary.
A callback from a Lithuanian gydytojas (doctor) or a vaistinė (pharmacy) — healthcare calls where every detail about medication or a follow-up matters.
A call from a Lithuanian bank, utility company, or government helpline — automated menus followed by an agent in standard Lithuanian.
A call from Lithuanian diaspora in the UK, Norway, or Germany, mixing Lithuanian with English, Norwegian, or German mid-sentence.
A WhatsApp or FaceTime video call with Lithuanian family — the primary platform for the large Lithuanian diaspora staying connected with home.

Built for the calls you have been avoiding
Captions as they speak
Words appear on screen word by word while the other person is still talking. You read what they say at the same pace everyone else hears it — no delay, no reconstruction.
Works on any call app
Captio AI does not need to integrate with any platform. Put the call on speaker, point the microphone toward the audio, and read the captions. It works the same way for any app on any device.
No more asking for repeats
Every word is on screen as it is said. If you missed something, glance at the caption rather than interrupting the call — the full sentence is there.
Handles call audio accurately
Compressed phone audio is less clean than in-person speech. Captio AI is built for real-world audio conditions, including the reduced quality of standard phone and VoIP calls.
Any language
For calls with family abroad, international colleagues, or foreign-language customer service. Live Translator captions and translates in real time with no manual setup.
Record and review after
Record any call and upload it to Audio Transcription. Get a full written record of everything said — useful for medical instructions, work decisions, and anything worth having in writing.
Why Lithuanian is hard to understand
Pitch accent
- Rising and falling tones distinguish words with no lip correlate
- Lithuanian is one of only two living Indo-European languages with a genuine pitch accent system. Acute (rising) and circumflex (falling) tones distinguish word pairs that are otherwise identical on the lips. The tonal distinction is entirely auditory — a deaf lip-reader cannot detect it.
Vowel length
- Short and long vowels carry meaning with the same lip shape
- Lithuanian distinguishes short and long vowels that change word meaning. The lip position for a vowel is the same whether it is short or long; only the duration differs. On a phone call, this durational distinction is invisible to a lip-reader.
Soft/hard consonant pairs
- Palatalized consonants differ from hard ones in tongue position only
- Lithuanian marks hard vs soft consonant pairs across the consonant inventory — the difference is made by raising the tongue toward the palate. Lip shapes are identical for hard and soft versions of the same consonant, making the distinction invisible to a lip-reader.
Fast connected speech
- Function words reduce to near-silence in casual speech
- Lithuanian casual speech contracts significantly: certain function words reduce and pitch accents compress at speed. On a phone call from a family member speaking at natural pace, a lip-reader loses the grammatical glue that would otherwise help parse meaning.
Diaspora code-switching
- English, Norwegian, or German enters mid-sentence without warning
- Large Lithuanian diaspora communities in the UK, Norway, and Germany mix their host language into Lithuanian calls seamlessly. A lip-reader tracking Lithuanian word shapes is suddenly facing English or German phonology, then back again.

Lithuania has a population of 2.8 million. Applying the Global Burden of Disease 2019 prevalence rates for the European region gives an estimated 560,000 Lithuanians with some degree of hearing loss, of whom roughly 130,000 live with disabling hearing loss. Lithuanian Sign Language (LSL) received legal recognition in 1996, providing a framework for interpreter access in education and public services — but implementation gaps persist, particularly outside Vilnius and Kaunas.
A 2024 investigation by LRT (Lithuanian national broadcaster) found that Lithuania has no functional system for identifying, supporting, or educating the estimated 12,000 people with combined sight and hearing loss in the country — a finding that reflects broader infrastructure gaps in disability services. For deaf and hard of hearing Lithuanians who rely on oral communication and lip-reading, phone-based services — banking, healthcare, utilities — remain largely inaccessible without a hearing intermediary, as no real-time captioning is provided by public or commercial phone services.
Captio AI captions every Lithuanian phone call in real time — from a family check-in to a bank callback in standard Lithuanian — so deaf and hard of hearing users can follow every word independently.

Gone the moment it ends
Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.
Not a product
Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.
Not used to train anything
What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
