Built for the speed of a real meeting
Captions while they are still speaking
Words appear on screen as each person talks — not after they finish. You read what someone is saying at the same moment everyone else hears it.
Works in any meeting format
Conference rooms, open-plan offices, video calls, all-hands. Place the phone on the table or hold it — Captio AI handles the rest.
Handles fast speech and crosstalk
Captio AI is designed for real meetings, not controlled dictation. It follows whoever is speaking loudest at any moment, keeping up with the natural pace of discussion.
No setup, no explaining
Open the app and place the phone. No pairing, no telling colleagues what you are doing, no requesting anything from the meeting organiser.
Review everything after
Record the meeting and upload it to Audio Transcription for a full written record. Use AI Summary to extract decisions and action items so nothing from the meeting gets lost.
60+ languages
For international teams, multilingual meetings, or colleagues who switch between languages mid-discussion. No setup required — Captio AI detects and captions in real time.
Why Indonesian is hard to understand
Javanese–Bahasa switching
- Javanese-majority offices switch between Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese mid-meeting
- In Java — home to Indonesia's largest corporate centres — informal workplace communication shifts between Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese without signal. Formal presentations use Bahasa; team discussions drop into Javanese; comments in the hallway are often entirely in the local language. A deaf person following Bahasa Indonesia loses the thread the moment Javanese appears — and in a meeting on Java, that moment comes regularly.
Particle reduction at speed
- Indonesian grammar markers that signal meaning disappear in fast meeting speech
- Indonesian marks direction, agency, and question type through prefixes (me-, ber-, di-) and particles (kah, apakah, ke, dari). In fast corporate speech — a presenter running through deliverables, a manager asking a quick question — these markers are swallowed or dropped entirely. Without them, sentences that look identical in lip shape carry opposite meanings. A task assignment and a question about a task look the same.
English in Jakarta boardrooms
- Jakarta corporate meetings switch between Bahasa Indonesia and English constantly
- Jakarta's multinational and tech corporate culture runs meetings in a hybrid of Bahasa Indonesia and English — English for international terminology, strategy documents, and formal presentations; Bahasa for discussion and team communication. The code-switch carries no signal. A deaf person following one language loses context the moment the other appears.
Gaul in office speech
- Indonesian informal workplace speech uses gaul — a register barely related to formal Bahasa
- Indonesian gaul (street slang) transforms vocabulary to the point where formal and informal registers are difficult to connect. 'Tidak' becomes 'nggak'; 'bagaimana' becomes 'gimana'; words are reversed, shortened, and reinvented. The formal Bahasa Indonesia of a presentation gives way to gaul the moment the agenda point ends — and with it, the visual parsability of what is being said.
Regional accent variation
- Indonesian companies draw from dozens of regional phonologies in the same meeting
- Indonesia's national workforce spans 17,000 islands and hundreds of local languages, each influencing how individuals speak Bahasa Indonesia. Javanese-influenced Indonesian, Balinese-influenced Indonesian, and Sumatran-influenced Indonesian carry distinct phonological features. In a national company with a distributed team, a video call brings together accents that a deaf person calibrated to any one variety will partially miss.

Around 74% of deaf Indonesians are unemployed, according to research on Indonesia's deaf community — one of the highest rates in Southeast Asia. More broadly, only 5.2% of Indonesia's 22.5 million disabled people are in formal employment, and 67% report experiencing discrimination. The Indonesian government has set a disability employment quota — 1% for private companies, 2% for government and state enterprises — but compliance and enforcement are minimal. For the small proportion of deaf Indonesians who reach formal employment, the meeting room is the setting where their daily exclusion is most concentrated.
Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO) exists but is not universally understood even within the deaf community, where multiple regional sign languages remain in use. There is no interpreter provision standard for corporate meetings, no captioning framework, and no employer guideline addressing the communication needs of deaf employees. The ILO has documented that the main barriers to disability inclusion in Indonesia's workforce lie in discriminatory practices and the absence of an accommodative work environment — with communication barriers specifically identified as the primary driver of exclusion in formal employment.
Indonesia's tech sector, startup ecosystem, and multinational corporate presence are expanding rapidly, with remote and hybrid work now standard across major cities. This creates a more meeting-heavy professional environment than ever before. The deaf and hard of hearing workforce is navigating this growth without any infrastructure to support them. Captio AI captions Indonesian speech in real time — including gaul, Javanese-influenced workplace speech, and English-Bahasa code-switching — so the standup, the client call, and the interview are accessible.
