Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

🍽️Family dinners

Slovak family celebrations — a name day (meniny), a baptism, or a wedding — bring multiple generations together for a long feast, with toasts, stories, and conversations happening in every direction at once.

🎉Social gatherings and parties

A friend gathering around a Slovak kitchen table, with wine or beer, cold cuts, and bread — the kind of long evening conversation that drifts from family news to football to local politics.

Friend catch-ups

Meeting old friends over coffee in a Bratislava cafe or in a family home, catching up on news and gossip in the relaxed, informal way Slovak friends do.

🌍Multilingual groups

A local council meeting or homeowners committee gathering where residents voice opinions about shared spaces, local issues, or neighbourhood events.

👥Community and club meetings

A Sunday lunch (nedelny obed) where grandparents, parents, and children eat together — grandparents speaking heavier dialect and younger family members using standard Slovak.

🏠Shared living situations

An afternoon visit to a neighbour or friend — the spontaneous, unplanned social moments in Slovak life where conversation happens over coffee and cake without any formality.

Why Captio AI

Built to keep you in the conversation, not just in the room

Captions whoever is speaking

Captio AI follows the dominant voice at any moment — whoever is loudest in the microphone's direction. In a group conversation, this tracks the active speaker naturally.

Works through background noise

Restaurants, living rooms, parties, outdoor gatherings. Moderate background noise does not prevent accurate captions — Captio AI is built for real environments, not quiet rooms.

Place it in the centre and forget it

Put the phone on the table or in the middle of the group, microphone facing the conversation. No positioning it after every speaker change, no adjusting between voices.

Less effort, less fatigue

The cognitive load of following a group conversation by lip-reading and reconstructing speech is exhausting. Captio AI handles the following so you can direct your energy toward actually being in the conversation.

60+ languages

For multilingual families, mixed-language social groups, or gatherings where people switch between languages mid-conversation. No setup required between language changes.

No setup between conversations

Open the app and place the phone. No configuration per setting, no briefing the group, nothing to manage between conversations. It works for any group, in any situation.

Slovak

Why Slovak is hard to understand

Phonemic Vowel Length

  • Short and long vowels look identical
  • Slovak distinguishes word meaning through vowel length (a vs. a-long, e vs. e-long), and these distinctions are critical. Short and long vowels look identical on a speaker's lips — what changes is duration, not lip position — making these contrasts completely inaccessible to lip-readers.

Eastern Slovak Stress Shift

  • Stress on the wrong syllable for lip-readers
  • Standard Slovak uses first-syllable stress, but Eastern Slovak dialects use penultimate stress. At a gathering with guests from eastern Slovakia, the rhythmic pattern of speech falls in an unexpected place on the lips, disrupting the lip-reading rhythm calibrated to standard Slovak.

Rhythmic Law

  • Long vowels shortened by grammar
  • Slovak's rhythmic law prevents two consecutive long syllables, creating systematic vowel shortening in suffixes after long-vowelled stems. What should be a long vowel is shortened automatically — expected length becomes short, expected shortness remains short, and the resulting pattern is hard to predict.

Palatal Lateral

  • L and soft-L look the same on lips
  • Slovak has a palatal lateral that does not exist in most related languages and produces minimal visible lip change compared to plain l. Two phonemes that share nearly the same lip shape carry different meaning — a distinction invisible to lip-readers.

Eastern-Western Vocabulary Gap

  • Same family, different words
  • Beyond phonology, Eastern Slovak dialects have different vocabulary from Western and Central Slovak — and a different prosodic rhythm. At a social gathering mixing family members from Bratislava and Presov, the same story may be told twice in two versions that look and sound quite different.

The Challenge

Hearing loss in Slovakia: the scale of daily exclusion

Slovakia has a population of approximately 5.5 million, and an estimated 250,000 people are deaf or hard of hearing — roughly 4.5 percent of the population. Despite relatively high awareness of hearing disability in the country, the provision of practical communication support is uneven. Of the 250,000 people with hearing loss in Slovakia, fewer than 5,000 are estimated to use Slovak Sign Language, meaning the vast majority navigate daily life — including group social settings — without specialist communication support.

The Slovak Sign Language Act was passed in 1995, and the 2020 codification of Slovak Sign Language was recognised as progress. However, practical implementation has lagged. Television subtitling obligations exist but remain inconsistently enforced: even the public broadcaster offers only minimal sign language programming, and live captioning of public events is rare. For deaf and hard of hearing Slovaks attending family celebrations, community meetings, or social gatherings, the lack of real-time access to group conversation is a daily fact of life.

Captio AI captions Slovak conversation in real time — whether the standard Slovak of a Bratislava gathering or the eastern-dialect speech of a family from Presov — so deaf and hard of hearing Slovaks can follow every voice at the table without waiting for the summary at the end.

Privacy

What you hear stays with you.

Gone the moment it ends

Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.

Not a product

Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.

Not used to train anything

What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
