Built for conversations that don't wait
Captions as they speak, not after
Captio AI shows each word as it is spoken. You read what the person is saying while they are still saying it — not after they have finished and moved on.
No lip reading needed
You do not need to face the speaker or position yourself to see their mouth. Captio AI picks up speech from any direction — across a counter, at a table, in a busy street.
Works through background noise
Restaurants, pharmacies, busy streets, crowded waiting rooms. Captio AI separates speech from background noise so captions stay accurate where everyday conversations actually happen.
Follows any conversation
One person or six. Captio AI captions whoever is speaking at any moment — so you follow the thread at a dinner table or keep up with a counter exchange without losing track.
Any accent, any pace
People do not slow down or enunciate for you. Captio AI handles fast talkers, regional accents, and casual speech — the way people actually talk in real life.
Any language, no setup
When someone speaks a language you do not know, switch to Live Translator. They speak their language — you read in yours. No configuration needed. Works in 60+ languages.
Why Telugu is hard to understand
Agglutination
- Telugu builds words by adding suffix after suffix — making them long and visually dense
- Telugu is a highly agglutinative language. Words grow through layers of suffixes that encode tense, aspect, subject, and object. In casual spoken Telugu, these long agglutinated forms are delivered quickly, producing extended word streams with few visual breaks. Lip reading Telugu at conversational speed gives almost no usable segmentation.
Formal vs colloquial gap
- Written and spoken Telugu are genuinely different languages
- Formal Telugu (used in writing, news, and classical literature) is called Shuddha Telugu. Everyday spoken Telugu is far shorter, faster, and borrows heavily from English and Hindi. The gap between the two registers is so wide that linguists describe them as distinct varieties. Daily life operates entirely in the colloquial register.
Telugu-English-Hindi mixing
- Urban Telugu daily speech is a three-way mix
- In Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and urban Andhra Pradesh, conversations mix Telugu with English and Hindi without conscious switching. A single conversation at a street stall can involve all three. Following the meaning requires all languages simultaneously.
Retroflex phonemes
- Telugu shares the South Asian phonemes hardest to lip-read
- Telugu retroflex consonants (ట, డ, ణ) and aspirated stops look nearly identical on the lips and are articulated with minimal visible mouth movement. These are foundational Telugu sounds present in everyday words. For a deaf or hard of hearing person, lip reading Telugu provides very little information.
Andhra vs Telangana
- Andhra Pradesh Telugu and Telangana Telugu are distinctly different varieties
- The Telugu of Andhra Pradesh (coastal and Rayalaseema varieties) and the Telugu of Telangana are distinctly different in vocabulary, intonation, and pronunciation. A deaf person calibrated to one will miss portions of the other. Hyderabadi Telugu has its own character, heavily influenced by Urdu from the city's historical culture.

Andhra Pradesh has a population of 54 million and Telangana 40 million — together around 94 million Telugu speakers, making Telugu one of the most spoken languages in India. India's national deaf and hard of hearing population is approximately 63 million, and Telugu-speaking states carry a proportionate share of this burden. For deaf people navigating Telugu-speaking daily life, exclusion is concrete and immediate: the street food stall where the vendor speaks fast colloquial Telugu, the auto-rickshaw ride where directions are entirely verbal, the family gathering where Andhra and Telangana varieties mix with Hindi and English in rapid, overlapping speech.
Indian Sign Language is absent from daily informal settings across the Telugu-speaking states, as it is across India broadly. Only 5% of deaf children in India attend school nationally. For everyday settings — the market, the corner shop, the street food stall, the family kitchen — there is no interpreter and no accommodation. Hyderabad's linguistic complexity adds a further layer: the city's Urdu-influenced Telugu (Dakhni) and code-switching between Telugu, Hindi, and English make everyday conversation especially difficult to follow without real-time captioning.
Telugu-speaking states face growing deaf and hard of hearing populations driven by urban noise exposure and limited preventative healthcare reach in rural Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The infrastructure gap between scale and daily-life support is among the widest in South Asia. Captio AI captions Telugu speech in real time — including fast colloquial registers, Hyderabadi Telugu, and code-switching with Hindi and English — so the street stall, the rickshaw, and the family gathering are no longer settings you have to navigate alone.
