Farmàcia counter, oficina de correus window, supermarket checkout, ajuntament desk. Staff speak fast in Catalan and move on. Captio AI shows what they said before the moment passes.
Sunday family dinar, birthday celebration, veïns gathering. Multiple generations, fast Catalan, Barcelona versus Valencian or Mallorcan accents mixing. Captio AI captions whoever is speaking.

Pausa del cafè conversation, a quick question in el passadís, catch-up before a meeting. The moments Catalan workplaces run on. Captio AI keeps you in those conversations.

Built for conversations that don't wait
Captions as they speak, not after
Captio AI shows each word as it is spoken. You read what the person is saying while they are still saying it — not after they have finished and moved on.
No lip reading needed
You do not need to face the speaker or position yourself to see their mouth. Captio AI picks up speech from any direction — across a counter, at a table, in a busy street.
Works through background noise
Restaurants, pharmacies, busy streets, crowded waiting rooms. Captio AI separates speech from background noise so captions stay accurate where everyday conversations actually happen.
Follows any conversation
One person or six. Captio AI captions whoever is speaking at any moment — so you follow the thread at a dinner table or keep up with a counter exchange without losing track.
Any accent, any pace
People do not slow down or enunciate for you. Captio AI handles fast talkers, regional accents, and casual speech — the way people actually talk in real life.
Any language, no setup
When someone speaks a language you do not know, switch to Live Translator. They speak their language — you read in yours. No configuration needed. Works in 60+ languages.
Why Catalan is hard to understand
Fast casual speech
- Spoken Catalan contracts and drops syllables at pace
- Everyday Catalan uses heavy elision — vowels reduce, particles stack, word boundaries blur. The gap between written Catalan and what a market vendor or neighbour actually says is wide, and at conversation speed the spoken form is nearly unreadable on the lips.
Code-switching
- A single exchange can shift between Catalan and Spanish mid-sentence
- In Barcelona, Tarragona, and most Catalan cities, conversations move fluidly between Catalan and Spanish without warning. A deaf person tracking one language can lose the thread the moment the other appears — and the switch is rarely signalled.
Regional varieties
- Valencian and Mallorcan sound different from Barcelona Catalan
- Valencian, Mallorcan, Menorcan, and the Catalan of the Pyrenean interior each have distinct vowel systems and rhythms. A deaf person calibrated to Central Catalan may find a conversation in Palma or Valencia significantly harder to follow.
Counter settings
- Pharmacy counters and market stalls do not pause
- At the mercat de barri or the farmàcia, staff speak fast, often while handling goods, and do not know you are deaf. No interpreter, no written alternative. One exchange to follow — and the queue behind you is already moving.
Lip-reading obstruction
- Masks and glass partitions block the visual cues lip-reading depends on
- Pharmacists behind screens, healthcare staff in masks, shop assistants turned away — the visual information that lip-reading requires is routinely blocked in exactly the settings where accurate communication matters most.

Applying Spain's EuroTrak-reported hearing loss prevalence of 10% to Catalonia's 7.9 million population gives approximately 790,000 people living with some degree of hearing loss in the region. For those with significant hearing difficulty, daily Catalan life is a sequence of inaccessible moments: the mercat vendor calling out prices, the neighbour stopping you in the stairwell, the Sunday lunch table where everyone else caught the joke.
Catalan Sign Language (LSC) was formally recognised by the Catalan Parliament in 2010 — one of a small number of regional sign languages with explicit legal protection in Europe. But recognition governs institutions. It does not reach the farmàcia counter, the terrassa, or the family kitchen. For the informal daily exchanges that make up most of social life, there is no accommodation, no fallback, and no system.
Spain's population is ageing at one of the fastest rates in Europe, and hearing loss prevalence rises steeply with age. The WHO projects 2.5 billion people worldwide with hearing loss by 2050. Captio AI captions Catalan speech in real time — Central Catalan, Valencian, Mallorcan, and Catalan–Spanish code-switching — so the mercat, the terrassa, and the Sunday table are no longer conversations you have to navigate alone.

Gone the moment it ends
Captio AI processes your audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded. Nothing is kept.
Not a product
Your conversations are not something Captio AI sells, shares, or monetizes — to anyone, for any reason.
Not used to train anything
What you say in a doctor's appointment or a job interview never ends up in a training dataset. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
