Use Cases

Every situation covered

Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.

🎤Keynotes and main stage talks

From a far seat in a keynote hall at the RAI in Amsterdam or a venue in Rotterdam, the speaker is distant and the hall is loud. Point Captio AI toward the nearest PA speaker and read every word of the Dutch keynote from any seat.

🔬Academic and research conferences

At an academic conference — a research congress at a Dutch university or a scientific meeting in Leuven or Ghent — presenters speak fast and mix in terminology. Captio AI captions in real time and transcribes for later review.

💼Industry and professional events

Industry events, technology summits, and product launches in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, or Brussels carry content that affects your work. Captio AI captions every speaker so you follow the panel.

📋Workshops and breakout sessions

In a workshop or breakout, several voices contribute in Dutch from around the table. Place Captio AI on the table and follow every contribution, including from the back of the room.

🤝Networking and informal sessions

The most useful conversations often happen over coffee breaks and at the conference dinner. Captio AI works in these noisy, informal settings the same way it does in the main hall.

🌍International and multilingual events

At an international conference, sessions switch between Dutch and English. Live Translator captions foreign-language talks in real time so you follow the full programme.

Why Captio AI

Built for the room where you cannot ask anyone to repeat

Live captions from any seat

Point the phone toward the nearest PA output or speaker. Captio AI captions whoever is presenting in real time — from the front row or the back of a large conference hall.

Works without venue infrastructure

No hearing loop, no captioning service, no advance booking required. Captio AI works independently via microphone — whether or not the venue has provided any accessibility infrastructure.

Covers what official captioning does not

Official captioning, where it exists, typically covers the main stage only. Q&A sessions, workshops, breakouts, and networking are usually left uncaptioned. Captio AI covers all of it.

Record and review after

Record any session and upload it to Audio Transcription for a full written record. Use AI Summary to extract key takeaways — useful for dense technical content you want to process at your own pace.

60+ languages

For international conferences, foreign-language keynotes, or multilingual panels. Live Translator captions and translates in real time across 60+ languages with no manual switching between speakers.

Works for networking too

The conversations in hallways and at lunch matter as much as the sessions. Captio AI works in any setting — informal, noisy, unstructured — the same way it works in the main hall.

Dutch

Why Dutch is hard to understand

Guttural g and ch

  • Sounds scraped at the back of the throat
  • Dutch is known for its guttural 'g' and 'ch', voiceless fricatives made at the back of the throat with no lip cue. From a distant stage a deaf attendee sees nothing of these sounds, which appear constantly in Dutch vocabulary and separate one keynote term from another.

Large vowel and diphthong system

  • Close vowels and diphthongs that look alike
  • Dutch has around thirteen vowel qualities plus diphthongs like ui, eu, and ou, and long vowels are often diphthongised. Many of these sit close together on the lips, so a deaf attendee cannot tell them apart, and the vowel that changes a technical term is invisible at speed.

Netherlands–Flemish divide

  • Dutch and Belgian Flemish differ on the podium
  • A Dutch-language conference may bring Netherlands Dutch and Belgian Flemish speakers together. Flemish softens the guttural sounds and shifts several vowels, so a deaf attendee calibrated to one variety finds the same words carry different shapes on the other's mouth.

Final devoicing and clusters

  • Word endings that lose voicing and pile up
  • Dutch devoices final consonants and allows dense consonant clusters. The endings that carry grammatical detail are neutralised or compressed, so in a fast keynote a deaf attendee loses exactly the part of the word that signals tense or number.

Dutch–English code-switching

  • Technical English inside Dutch sentences
  • Dutch and Flemish professionals, among the most fluent English speakers in Europe, drop English terms into Dutch sentences constantly. A deaf attendee lip-reading Dutch meets English phonology on the key vocabulary, then returns to Dutch, with no visual signal of the switch.

The Challenge

Hearing loss and professional access in the Netherlands and Flanders

The Netherlands has around 2.6 million people with age-related hearing impairment (a loss greater than 25 dB), of whom roughly 1.3 million have moderate to severe loss. About 800,000 wear hearing aids, which means some 500,000 people with moderate-to-severe loss go untreated — and researchers estimate the annual social cost of age-related hearing impairment at billions of euros. Flanders adds a further Dutch-speaking population facing the same barriers. Many of these people are the professionals who fill conference audiences in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, and Brussels.

The Low Countries host a dense calendar of congresses and events — the academic conferences of the Dutch and Flemish universities, the technology summits of Amsterdam and Eindhoven, the industry and institutional events of Brussels. These run on spoken Dutch delivered over PA systems, with English heavily woven in. Real-time Dutch captioning of keynotes, panels, and Q&A is rarely provided, and where captioning exists it covers the main stage, not the breakouts and networking where professional value is built.

Captio AI closes that gap. Point the phone toward the PA and read every Dutch keynote and panel answer from any seat, record a dense session for the full transcript, and follow the conversations over a coffee break — so a deaf professional in Amsterdam or Brussels gets the same value from the same conference as everyone in the hall.

What you hear stays with you.

Gone the moment it ends

"RAI tech talks drop English terms into Dutch on every point, delivered fast from a far stage. I caught fragments. Captio AI captioned both from my seat. I read the whole session and knew exactly what the launch meant for my team."
