Designed for the real moments that matter — not just quiet controlled environments.
RTVS and Markíza run live news that pre-generated subtitles can lag behind. Point Captio AI at your TV and read the Slovak as it is spoken, not several seconds behind the anchor.
Voyo and other platforms vary in subtitle quality and availability. Captio AI works as a consistent fallback for any Slovak show or film that ships with wrong, delayed, or missing captions.
YouTube auto-captions for Slovak are often inaccurate and most social video has none. Point Captio AI at your phone and read accurate Slovak captions for any clip.
A foreign film, a foreign documentary, a non-Slovak channel — much of it dubbed into Slovak. Live Translator captions and translates in real time so anything becomes watchable as it plays.
Not every cinema showing has open captions. Hold Captio AI near the audio and read real-time Slovak captions of the dialogue discreetly from your seat.
Most Slovak podcasts have no transcript. Hold Captio AI near the audio or upload a recording, and read the whole episode in writing.

Built for the content that subtitles fail
Captions any content in real time
Point the phone toward any speaker — TV, laptop, tablet, cinema screen. Captio AI captions whatever is playing, regardless of whether that platform provides subtitles.
Faster than built-in subtitles for live content
Pre-generated subtitles lag behind live TV by several seconds. Captio AI captions in real time — so you read what is being said as it is being said.
Works on any screen or device
No integration required. Point the phone toward the audio source — the same approach works for a large TV, a laptop screen, a cinema, or a phone held at arm's length.
Any language, translated in real time
For foreign-language content, switch to Live Translator. It translates as content plays — so a French film, a German documentary, or a Japanese series all become watchable.
No subtitle file needed
Captio AI captions from the audio directly. No subtitle file, no platform support, no creator requirement. If audio plays, Captio AI can caption it.
More accurate than auto-generated captions
The industry average for AI-generated subtitles is a 10–15% word error rate — roughly 1 in 10 words wrong (3Play Media). Captio AI is built for accuracy in real-world audio conditions.
Why Slovak is hard to understand
Consonant clusters
- Words that pile up consonants, some with no vowel
- Slovak allows up to four consonants in a row and has a syllabic r and l — words like 'prst' or 'štvrť' built around consonants with no vowel. On screen these clusters give a lip-reader almost no visual seams, so a deaf viewer cannot break a word into readable pieces.
Vowel length
- Long and short vowels that change the word
- Slovak vowel length is phonemic — a long vowel makes a different word from a short one. This is a timing distinction, not a lip shape, so on screen a deaf viewer cannot see which of two terms was said.
Soft and retroflex consonants
- Palatal ľ, ň, ď, ť and retroflex č, š, ž
- Slovak contrasts palatal soft consonants — ľ, ň, ď, ť — and has retroflex č, š, ž, distinctions carried by tongue position with barely any visible cue. A deaf viewer sees the same mouth for consonants that make different words.
Dubbing and mismatched lips
- Foreign content dubbed into Slovak never matches the mouth
- Slovak law requires most foreign film and TV to be dubbed into Slovak — children's content especially — so the words a viewer hears do not match the lips on screen. For a deaf viewer relying on lip-reading, dubbed content is impossible: the mouth speaks a different language from the soundtrack.
Regional dialects on screen
- Western, central, and eastern Slovak differ
- Slovak content features western, central, and eastern speech, which differ in vowels, rhythm, and some consonants. A deaf viewer calibrated to the central standard meets shifting speech from one show or region to the next.

Against a European backdrop in which around one in five people has some hearing loss, Slovakia carries a substantial burden across its population. Dedicated subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing is only beginning to emerge as a media standard, and the country's language law shapes the barrier: most foreign film and television are dubbed into Slovak, with children's content under 12 explicitly required to be dubbed.
For a deaf viewer, dubbing is doubly hard — the lips on screen speak the original language while the Slovak soundtrack has no accessible caption. Live news carries no reliable real-time captions, commercial and streaming subtitle quality varies, and the consonant clusters and soft consonants that make Slovak hard to lip-read leave a deaf viewer stranded wherever a caption is missing.
Captio AI does not depend on the broadcaster or the platform. Point the phone at any screen — a live RTVS bulletin, a dubbed foreign film, a YouTube clip — and read Slovak captions in real time from the audio, whether or not that content was ever captioned.
